Sustainable Development on a Daily Basis
Measures to Promote Sustainable Transportation
- The CSSS-IUGS conducted a survey on the transportation habits of its employees in order to offer them sustainable alternatives which meet their requirements.
- The CSSS-IUGS implemented two public transportation pilot projects offered free of charge for certain categories of employees.
- The CSSS-IUGS offers vehicle owners the possibility of using alternative parking lots and shuttle buses to go to work.
Efficient Waste Product Management
- The CSSS-IUGS abides by the 4R principle - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover.
- The Ici on recycle program encourages waste recovery and composting. This program is being evaluated for official certification.
Annual Défi climat Campaign
The CSSS-IUGS has implemented numerous activities to fight climate change.
- In 2010, 214 employees mobilized for the Défi climat campaign. Their commitment helped to prevent the emission of 249,398 kg of CO2/year.
- As part of Défi tasse-toi, employeees were encouraged to purchase reusable cups and bottles made of compostable materials.
Eco-Responsible Procurement
The CSSS-IUGS has taken a number of steps to adopt a responsible procurement policy. This policy translates in the:
- integration of sustainable development criteria in are call for tenders;
- ecological elimination of waste;
- gradual elimination of single-use, disposable containers.
Energy Savings
Among the measures it has taken to save energy, the CSSS-IUGS has conducted:
- an awareness campaign in partnership with the Agence de l’efficacité énergétique;
- an analysis to implement an energy efficiency program.
