The Alliance and the CIUSSS de L’Estrie – CHUS, CSSS-IUGS Facility, Jointly Promoting a Healthy Body Image among Youth

June 17th, 2015

On June 3, 2015, the Alliance sherbrookoise pour des jeunes en santé and the CIUSSS de L’Estrie – CHUS, CSSS-IUGS facility, gave an oral presentation entitled Concertation entre des acteurs locaux et les infirmières scolaires pour la promotion d’une image corporelle saine (joint collaboration among local actors and school nurses to promote a healthy body image) in Montreal at the Congrès mondial des infirmières.

Nathalie Morin, nursing adviser, Saunia Caron, head of program administration, Maud Therrien, nurse clinician and assistant to the immediate superior, Marie-Andrée Roy, research professional, and Annie Masson, Alliance coordinator, have shown that the partnership between the Alliance and school nurses favours the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among youth, particularly as it pertains to body image.

School nurses are actively involved in implementing the healthy school method by incorporating measures to promote a healthy body image among youth from grade 5 to the first cycle of high school into their practice. The nurses give workshops in the classroom and provide other tools to raise awareness among youth and their parents. As part of the presentation on June 3, the tools developed and the impact of the partnership with the Alliance were introduced.

The Alliance sherbrookoise pour des jeunes en santé is a group of strategic partners which have been working together since 2007 to turn Sherbrooke into a place where youth aged 0 to 17 adopt healthy lifestyles.
